Chris's Post 11/28

Well, Thanksgiving is over. This year, I had Tofurky, mashed potatoes, a squash/turnip casserole, and pumpkin pie. I never had Tufurky before, although I had something similar before. It was quite expensive, and I think next year I will have turkey, again. Check out the blogs I have done at http://chrissmovies.blogspot.com/ and http://videosihaveseen.blogspot.com/ . My friend,Jim Flaherty, took this picture at Irondequoit Bay last year. The duck got away!

Chris's Post 11/21

We are off next week! And the week after that, we have our last class. I am going to miss the teachers, especially Liz (she and four friends came to the Roller Derby with me). I like the clinic! Five years ago, when I first had my stroke, I could only say one thing --"No". And now I am a regular chatterbox. I think the time at Rochester Rehab and Nazareth College made all the difference in the world.

The picture is from Russia and shows a church that is made up entirely of wood. It is 200 years old.

Also, I would like to put down some of the links that were helpful to me.

How my stroke affected my family

I was 48 when I had my stroke. I was married with one kid (4 years old). I couldn't talk, read, or communicate. The stroke tested my marriage and the 4 year old couldn't understand why his father couldn't talk to him.
My personality changed. I was outgoing but after the stroke I was an introvert. The marriage made it. The kid was scared, but he is strong and lived through it.

Chris's Post 11/14

Hello again. I thought I would take you through a typical week in the life of Chris Ackley. Every day is different. I wake up and have some oatmeal, a bagel, or some eggs. Some days I do stuff with I.L.S.T. (independent living skills trainer). Some days I have an aide who helps me shop. Some days I come to the clinic (I eat a hot breakfast at Galisano Hall).

I go out to the movies once a week (two if there is more then one selection I want to see). I watch Judge Judy every day at four o'clock.

I make my self dinner every night. I make a mean meatless sauce. I use eggplant, mushrooms, zucchini, and olives. I used to be a chef.

After dinner, I watch videos or check out what' on TV. On Thursday night, I watch NBC.

That's a day in the life of Chris Ackley.

The Three of Us

A day in my life- Jerry Jamberdino
Monday is my favorite day. I take a speech therapy class at 10-11:30; I have an Art Therapy class from 11:30-12:30 both at Nazareth College. At 12:30 I go to the Nazareth gym and walk for a half an hour. At 1:00 I leave Naz and drive to RIT for a class in Astrology. The class ends at 3:30. I go home and read my book for one hour. I am reading Dan Brown's book "The Lost Symbol." Within an hour the kids come home from school and work. After dinner I read, then I watch television and play with my computer.

Chris's Post 11/5

That is Russia!
I have started a new blog! Instead of movies, I write about the videos I have seen. Check it out at http://videosihaveseen.blogspot.com/

Let me know what you think about it!

Mary's story

I had a stroke 7 years ago. I am doing quite well. I have a husband and 2 sons. My husband didn't leave the hospital at all during my stroke. He stayed there for 7 weeks without leaving my side. My 2 sons came home from college and high school to be with me. I am very grateful that they cared about me.

Chris's Story

I had a stroke 5 1/2 years ago on March 21, 2004. I was living in Florida and I was working as a truck driver at Florida Supply Company. My sister-in-law came down and suggested that I come up to Rochester because there were so many things I could do up here. Shortly after I came up she found J.J. and we started physical therapy. When J.J. came over to my house, she said that Nazareth had a wonderful speech clinic also. At the time I was also going to Rochester Rehab where I met Mary. When I came to Nazareth, Mary introduced me to Jerry. Right now I am going to the speech clinic at Nazareth--I used to go to physical therapy there too. Now I am too busy! I am retired and one of the things I do is to watch movies at the theater. Check out my review at http://chrissmovies.blogspot.com.

Jerry's story

Hi my name is Jerry Jamberdino. I had a stroke when I was 48 years old. It affected my speech, spelling, concentration my personality, and more.

I was playing golf, I had the best drive of my life. I was walking to the ball and I fell over. My partners looked at me and ran to get an ambulance.

I couldn't talk, but after 14 years of therapy I am getting better.
